About my nick

Back in 1991 I began working at a local pizzeria. Shortly thereafter I was given the name Paulucci. I spent the senior year of High School working at the pizzeria and it was a blast! Then I went off to the University of Delaware to major in Computer Science.

Once at UDel, CS majors needed a login to the university computers for working on class assignments. I chose my nickname from the pizzeria. My first email address on the Internet was paulucci @ brahams.udel.edu. (Actually, there were several other computers named after composers on which I had a login/email address).

A few years later, I signed up for an AOL account since I was going through Internet withdrawal while on summer break. Again, I chose paulucci as my login. Now, more than just my circle of friends knew me as paulucci; anyone on the net would communicate with me as paulucci.

While still at UDel, the WWW was beginning to take off. Around 1995, I began running a small website from my dorm. I titled it Paulucci's Palace (don't ask!). It contained some basic info about what I was doing at school, some of my poetry (which can be found on this site), and some other bits and pieces. By now, I pretty much identified as paulucci, on the 'net and sometimes off (especially when I walk into the pizzeria!).

Then I graduated. A local ISP was offering reasonable dial-up access and I signed up as paulucci. I used both paulucci @ planet.net and my AOL address for all personal email. I started working, and was assigned my real name for an email address at work. This was the first time I had used my real name in any correspondence on the Internet.

By now, websites were requiring logins for personalized experiences. I used paulucci as my login for these services; slashdot.org comes to mind. (I am still using paulucci whenever it is not already used today).

Eventually, I moved into my own place and got cable TV. Once cable started providing Internet access, I used paulucci as my address. Then gmail came along and again I used paulucci.

And now, if you see paulucci on your favorite website, more than likely, that is me!
